Research & Development
Building EnvironmentsDifferently.
AIMED is researching how geospecific and geotypical synthetic environments can be created more efficiently — combining real-world data, AI-assisted workflows, procedural techniques and established commercial tools.
The Problem Worth Solving
Creating simulation environments is still largely a manual process. Even with modern tools, the gap between raw survey data and a simulation-ready environment requires significant skilled effort — and that effort is often repeated from project to project.
AIMED's research focuses on where that effort can be reduced without compromising the accuracy and technical quality that simulation requires. Not shortcuts. Better processes.
Practical Automation
AIMED is researching where AI-assisted workflows, procedural techniques and established commercial tools can reduce repetitive manual work in synthetic-environment production.
The aim is not to automate everything.
The aim is to identify where automation improves speed, consistency and scalability without compromising the accuracy, control and validation required for simulation.
THE BEST SOLUTION IS OFTEN A COMBINATION OF COTS TOOLS, TARGETED AUTOMATION AND BESPOKE DEVELOPMENT.
Research Areas
AI-Assisted Workflows
Exploring where AI tools can meaningfully reduce manual effort in environment creation — classification, feature extraction, geometry generation — without introducing the errors that make environments wrong for simulation.
Procedural Techniques
Using rule-based and procedural approaches to generate environment elements from source data, reducing the need for manual modelling while maintaining geometric accuracy.
Real-World Data Integration
Improving how survey data, LiDAR, photogrammetry and geospatial datasets are processed and integrated into simulation-ready environments — with less manual intervention at each stage.
Commercial Tool Pipelines
Identifying how established commercial tools can be combined and automated to create more efficient end-to-end pipelines, rather than replacing them with unproven alternatives.
